How to deal with toxic people at work- Negative people at work
Are you sick of listening to criticism among teammates? Can't handle those negative people in your office? Don't worry. In this blog, you'll find the best ways to overcome the negativity spread by these negative people, often called blockers. On being the most authoritative place in the office, such as a manager, secretary, vice president, or whatsoever a great responsibility of keeping workplace in harmony and consistent lies naturally to you and here's what you can do:
How to block the blockers?
"Dealing with negative people"
In the meeting:
One act of these negative people usually is, not to let anyone speak in the meeting other than them or just keep criticizing others' ideas. You can use phrases to block these blockers:
"I would be interested in what others think about this"
"What are the strengths of these ideas?"
"What causes you concern?"
"What's the reason for your disagreement?"
" We consider your view now let Bob share his ideas too"
2.Listen to your workers' complaints:
Assume it's a normal work environment, not a meeting even but you know what, negativity is everywhere. It's not bounded only for a meeting or a visit. You must've got complaints from your co-workers about negative roles lingering in the office and unfortunately, you were afraid to discuss this topic so you just shut it. This is from where the spread of destructive roles starts. The key to killing both negative acts and thoughts from your work culture is to listen to the very first complaint you receive and this is the time to hold the floor. Coach employees you think are usually exaggerating without letting them feel they are being treated specially.
PROMOTE POSITIVE ROLES
Provision of freedom to speak at the workplace:
Set certain parameters for freedom to speak at the workplace. This is also called open communication. You can check my blog on open communication here
Find opportunities to compromise:
To complain right away is not always a good idea. Most of the time compromising works better than spoiling your relations. Find ways among your members to look for a 50/50 situation where both get mutualized on the same suggestion.
Share ideas, increase community:
When compromission doesn't work between two members, add a third person who is an expert negotiator to sort things out. Remember in conflict resolution a mediator or negotiator's role is as important as the base to a building.
The bottom line:
Work culture is composed of positive and negative people and roles but the thing is to suppress those negative acts and stimulate positive roles such as the right to speak, getting parties to compromise and negotiation are the good ideas.
